Kyoto Research Laboratories (KRL) have strived to study mainly biotechnology since they were founded as a department of research and development of Marukin Shoyu Co., Ltd. in Uji, Kyoto in 1967. We have been active in study of biotechnology that is particularly related to microorganism and is closely related to life activity. Our basic philosophy has been to establish laboratories that have carried out research and development of creative technology in unique field.
During that time, we have commercialized original reagents, medical supplies and health foods, and have obtained higher evaluation of those products from domestic and foreign users.
Marukin Chuyu Co., Ltd. (that was renamed from Maukin Shoyu Co. Ltd. in 2000) incorporated subsidiary company, Marukin Bio, Inc., and transferred biotechnology business to them on November 8, 2002, when the business of new company has started.
We, Marukin Bio, Inc., are striving to commercialize sialic acid-related technology which includes a large number of patents of Japan and foreign countries as well, further strengthen sales promote of UBASTEC·AUTO that is a urine diagnostic kit for liver diseases first developed in the world, develop health food possessing sure function and deliver these reliable products to contribute to health and future of human beings.

Company History
1967Marukin-Bio (KRL) was founded in Kyoto.
1974Colominic acid fermentation was initiated.
Neuraminidase from non-pathogenic bacteria was screened.
N-Acetylneuraminic acid (sialic acid : NeuAc) was prepared from colominic acid by neuraminidase
NeuAc-aldolase from Escherichia coli was prepared.
These products are now being distributed all over the world as biochemical reagents.
1982Sialic acid assay kit for clinical use was developed.
1984NeuAc-aldolase (NAL) recombinant of E.coli by genetic engineering technology was constructed.
NAL large production using recombinant was developed.
1992Procedure of NeuAc large scale production by alkaline method was developed.
1993Bile acid sulfate assay kit (manual:UBASTEC) for clinical use was developed.
1995UBASTEC was approved for hospital and clinical laboratory use by Health and Welfare Ministry.
1995Grant from Human Science Foundation for development of anti-AIDS drug together with a group of University was received (for five years).
1995N-Acylglucosamine 2-epimerase (AGE) recombinant of E.coli by genetic engineering technology was constructed.
1996UBASTEC·AUTO (for use in autoanalyzer) was approved for hospitals and clinical laboratory use by Health and Welfare Ministry.
1998UBASTEC·AUTO was approved for laboratory use by FDA and clinical trial for hospital and clinical.
1999Marukin Diagnostics Inc.(MDI) established for US Marketing and Sales.
2000Health foods "Olive Leaf Supplement" for diabetic hyperglycemia was developed.
Estrogen-like activity of Pomegranate juice was demonstrated.
2002Health foods "Noni Juice" for hypertonia was developed
2005Acquired ISO9001 (JQA-QMA 11984).
